Dix when I was sergeant of the barracks in which he was staying for his "short tour". Since I had a "room" versus the open area (being the sarge), Jim would come into my room and strummed his guitar with some songs. At the time, I didn't know of his songs (I was a country boy then). I asked him if I could record some of his singin' an strummin'. He said sure. So, somewhere in my collection of reel to reel tapes, I have songs that he played for me. Now, all I have to do is find them and hope that they are still playable.
Jim seemed to be just a real nice guy who was too relaxed to be in the Army.
Just reminiscing.

Comment on Before the Moody Blues, Bessie Banks: 'Go Now'

nice to know the origins of the original Go Now

Comment on The Grass Roots: "Let's Live for Today"

As a Viet vet (1969-72), I thought the lyrics to be trite and teeny bopperish. Have to admit, I couldn't remember "Congratulations" either, so I found it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SB5GK7ETs4 -- Not terrible, but it's a good thing this wasn't the A-side.
Makes me want to hear both versions again. And what was the B-Side, Congratulations, like? Great post. Keith's memoir (Life) highlighted how deeply he and Mick studied American R&B of the time.
